He is the first person to cause the shift of Telugu film industry to Hyderabad Andhar, Pradesh from Chennai, Tamilnaduin an attempt to bring the native language to the heart of the Telugucommunity. Soon after moving to Hyderabad, Nageswara Rao founded hisown production house, Annapoorna Studios (named after his wife Akkineni Annapoorna), located in Banjara Hills.

His movie Premabhishekam (directed by Dasari Narayana Rao) is one of the biggest hits in Tollywood. Premabhishekam had an amazing 533 days run in Hyderabad City which is still highest run in a city for telugu movies.
Premabhishekam isa milestone not only in the career of ANR, but also in the history ofTelugu cinema. This film was produced by Nagarjuna Akkineni and VenkatAkkineni on Annapurna banner with ANR as hero in the direction ofDasari. Shooting of this film was started on the birthday of ANR (20thSeptember) and was released on marriage day of ANR (18th February1980). This film completed 100 days on 28th of May, which happens to bethe birthday of NTR.
