After battling with Cancer for a period of months, Narra Venkateswara Rao passed away in the wee hours of Sunday morning.The actor is survived by his wife Sushila, son
Murali and daughter Vasantha Lakshmi. A character artiste to reckon
with, Narra acted in varied roles as an antagonist, supporting actor
and character roles in over 550 films.
One of the very few actors who could survive
cut-throat competition from newer entrants, Narra held his sway for at
least two decades in the industry. He received plum offers from media
houses, who produced prime time soaps in popular channels like Gemini.
Playing father or father-in-law, he thoroughly entrenched himself in
small screen. His career graph on bullithera got scuttled when he was
detected with cancer.
Hailing from Prakasam district, Narra is said to
have displayed immense curiosity for theater and acting even as a
child. Mallella Manasu came his way and he never looked back. His
powerful roles in Neti Bharatam, Viplava Shankam, Prathigatana, Desamlo
Dongalupaddaru are fondly remembered by his fans.When he is playing a negative role, he seems like a
menacing presence. And when he is doing a kind one, he is absolutely
endearing on the screen. His death is deeply mourned by the industry
and people in the state.
MAA president Murali Mohan and other cine
personalities like D Ramanaidu, B Gopal, Muthyala Subbayya offered
their condolences to his family. His contemporaries Sutti Velu,
Chalapathi Rao, Maharshi Raghava said they were dejected at the
untimely death of Narra.
